Distribution and occurrence of Pecky Rice

  • Single or several florets in the panicle develop brown to reddish-brown spots; grain discolored due to feeding of stink bugs and fungal growth.

Causal Organism of Pecky Rice

Many fungi cause damages

  • Cochliobolus miyabeanus
  • Curvularia spp.
  • Fusarium spp.
  • Microdochium oryzae
  • Sarocladium oryzae etc.

Symptoms of Pecky Rice

  • Several or all florets per panicle are shrivelled and discolored to a light to dark brown, reddish-brown, purple or white.
