Importance of Agriculture in Maharashtra State Economy

1. The state has cultivated area of 17.43 m ha which is about 80% of the geographical area.

2. The net irrigated area is 2.94 m ha comprising of 17% of geographical area.

3. The major crops are sugarcane, cotton, sorghum, pearl millet, chickpea, soybean, sunflower and safflower.
