Agro ecological zones of Maharashtra

The state has been divided into following agro ecological zones:
1. Agro ecological zone 1: Very high rainfall, lateritic soils;
2. Agro ecological zone2: Very high rainfall, non-lateritic soils;
3. Agro ecological zone 3: Ghat zone;
4. Agro ecological zone 4: Transition 1 with red to reddish brown soils;
5. Agro ecological zone 5: Transition 2 with grayish black soils;
6. Agro ecological zone 6: scarcity zone;
7. Agro ecological zone 7: Assured rainfall with mainly kharif cropping;
8. Agro ecological zone 8: Moderate to moderately high rainfall with soils formed from trap;
9. Agro ecological zone 9: High rainfall with soils formed from mixed rocks. The state has black, red, lateritic and alluvial soils.
